2009 is it....
What a year it's been! I'm thankful for all the lessons learnt and mistakes made lol. The Faculty of Hip Hop was inactive this year due to decisions made by my partners to take a time out...and it was a good decision. We are running programs and events full swing next year insallah. This year my energy went into making Classics a sucess. After 10 parties it's safe to say Classics is a Cape Town institution. With the help of The Chief Rockers (Falko Starr, DJ Eazy), Lindsay Rhoda, Nadine Matthews, Adidas and Jason Wessels this monthly event is a sure shot. Held at the legendary Mercury Live every first Thursday of the month the soundtrack of the evening is 80's pop, rock, pop, hip hop and everything in between that's Classic! Putting out mixtapes for each and every party is still a mission though and extrremely time consuming but it's all good lol. A big up to all the regulars and supporters for 2009.
This year also saw the birth of Listeners Space which is the brainchild of my partner Nadine Matthews. This monthly event is a platform for up and coming bands but we also featured top South African musicians like Matt Allison and E.J Von Lyrik. The journey has been interesting since our company, Platform 7 Productions has been in operation. We also hosted the 10 year anniversary of Africa's premiere dj group, The Beat Bangaz which was/is still a highlight. Next year Platform 7 Productions are hosting more events and developing television programs. Should be swell....
The dj scene in my opinion is alive and well. Big up to Spindle Crew doing their thang and contributing to the turntablist scene. Respect to Wreckage Pro for the work done this year putting together premiere bboy events. We have a long way to go to take it next level but it's there.
